María Domínguez is a Spanish pianist specialized in classical and contemporary music. Currently based in Galicia, she develops her career both as a soloist and in different orchestral groups, chamber music and interdisciplinary projects. 

In the orchestral field, she has collaborated with the BKM Symphony Orchestra, Amikejo Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (NJO), performing in concert halls such as Concertgebouw (Netherlands), Kontzerhaus (Germany), Alto Adige Theater (Italy), Orpheus Theater Apeldoorn (Netherlands), among many others. 


Her interest in interdisciplinary work and research has led her to become an artist-in-residence at the Bordenhal Theater in Maastricht, working with a team of dancers, actors, visual and plastic artists. She also highlights her work with dance by carrying out projects with the P.A.R.T.S. school (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios), founded and directed by the choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. She has also worked as a pianist accompanying classical dance at the "Conservatoire de la danse" and the "International Ballet School" in Brussels (Belgium).

 

In her role as creator and artistic director, Maria leads the musical project CONTENCO, formed by the percussionist Pablo Paz and the flamenco dancer Federico Ordoñez, combining contemporary music with the most traditional dance. She is also co-artistic director of PULSO Ensemble, a group focused on experimental music of new creation.

 

Within contemporary music, she has performed at festivals such as Images Sonores Festival (Brussels), Xornadas de Música Contemporánea (Santiago de Compostela), Winternights Festival (Limburg), Musica Sacra Festival (Maastricht) and has collaborated with composers such as Michael Beil, Vykintas Baltakas, among others. 


She has made recordings of works by composers such as: Gubaidulina, Heinz Holliger, Jasper Vanpaemel, Einojuhani Rautaavara, etc. She has also played for two of the most important radio stations in classical music: Radio 4 and Música Viva de Radio Clásica (RNE). 

 

She has been awarded and supported by Via Zuid Talenmakelaar, Schiting Cultural Entrepreneurchip of Maastricht, foundation of the Conservatorium of Maastricht, Art Buro Limburg, Ministry of Culture and Education of Spain and Peter de Grote Festival.

 

In 2017, she finishes the Master in Classical Piano Performance at the Conservatorium Maastricht (Netherlands) with the highest qualification of outstanding cum laude. In addition, she has completed the specialization course in Contemporary Music through non Western techniques at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Postgraduate course in Contemporary Music with Ensemble Ictus and Espectra in Brussels, Belgium.  In 2020, she will complete the Master of Music Research at the International University of Valencia, Spain.
