The piano accompanist for dance is a highly specialized professional who works at professional and/or amateur dance and ballet schools, dance companies or ballet corps. Piano accompanists work closely with the dance master, providing the most appropriate musical accompaniment for lessons and rehearsals and supporting activities on stage.
The aim of the course is to provide instruction, training and empirical learning opportunities to musicians in the field of dance accompaniment. In addition, there is a real emphasis on giving them the knowledge and connections to make a living as a professional musician. Participants will learn the skills required to be able to play for a professional ballet class. Included are workshops looking at playing for young people, contemporary dance and accompanying rehearsals.
